Hi there fellow bloggers and blog readers!
We are four students who are studying at Group T- international university college Leuven in Belgium. For our bachelor project we are keeping a blog about what we've done so for in the project, what we are looking forward to, what problems we've encountered and the solutions we've found.
So far we've been divided in groups of four and we've chosen the subject of the up-flow sludge blanket filtration and the microclar. These are systems for waste-water treatment. They mainly focus on getting out nitrogen and phosphorous. So the effluent of these treatment plants will not be drinkable since it still contains bacteria. They can be removed by solar reverse osmosis. We've completed our literature study, Gantt chart, plan of approach, work breakdown structure and our cooperation contract.
Here's a picture of the USBF and the microclar so you all know what we are talking about ;-)

USBF

Microclar
The literature study concludes the concepts that are being used in the USBF and the microclar but the concepts of both are basically the same. They both use denitrifaction, nitrification, dephosphoryzation and filtration of the activated sludge. Further there are some examples of tests that have been done in previous studies, a case study and the design of the microclar and the USBF.
So far the work on the project has been with our noses in the books, articles and papers. So you could say that it has been rather boring which it has been so far, which doesn't mean that the subject isn't interesting. But in a few weeks we can hopefully start building which will become much more fun.
Well that's we've done so far but we'll keep you posted.
